Valéry Ann Jacobs

Visual environement and medical lighting

Prof. dr. Valéry Ann Jacobs is an (astro)physicist from KU Leuven, who obtained a joint-PhD in Engineering Sciences (VUB) and Engineering Technology (KU Leuven) in 2015 on a topic about surgical lighting. Together with UZ Brussel she is currently working on a valorization track for an invention that integrates surgical lighting and ventilation. Also, she is developing a masterplan Lighting together with the infrastructure department of VUB. She is involved in several commissions at national and international level, is on the International Advisory Board of the journal "Lighting Research and Technology" (LRT), and teaches several courses at bachelor and master level to students in Engineering and Architecture.

Patrick Rombauts (†)

Public lighting

Prof. dr. ir. Patrick Rombauts was the founder and driving force of the lighting research at ETEC. He obtained his PhD in Engineering in 1992 and continued working at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on the following research topics: design of outdoor lighting (residential and urban areas, motorways, tunnels, sports yards, city beautification) and indoor lighting (industry and safety applications, sports fields, visual ergonomy and daylighting,) visibility criteria in public lighting, building integrated daylight components, CAD of luminaires and bidirectional photometry. Further, he serves in several commissions at national and international level and teaches several courses at bachelor and master level to students in Engineering and Architecture.

Philippe Lataire

Power electronics

Prof. Dr. ir. Philippe Lataire received a degree in electromechanical engineering in 1975 and a degree in doctor in applied sciences in 1982 from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Brussels, Belgium). He is presently full professor at the VUB in the field of power electronics, automatic control and electric drives. The prime factors of his research interest are in the field of electric drives, power electronics and control.

Saskia Van Hoyweghen

Business partner HR & Finance - ETEC

Dr. Saskia Van Hoyweghen has run her own business for more than 7 years but also has a long background in academic research. She combines these skills as business partner for the engineers within MOBI in the fields of HR and Finance. She liaises between the central administration and ETEC’s research staff for all project related financial and HR matters.
