LUXETEC has research expertise in public lighting (road lighting, tunnel lighting,…) architectural lighting (electrical lighting and daylighting), medical lighting (visual comfort and surgical luminaires) and smart cities.
The team members of LUXETEC are actively involved in academic research, university teaching, projects and technical commissions at national and international level. At national level, we are involved in the Belgian institute for Lighting (BIV) and the Bureau for Standardisation (NBN.) At international level, we are involved in the International commission for Lighting (CIE) and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN.)
As our research expertise is complementary to the research of the Light&Lighting Laboratory in Ghent, we strive to work closely together with them, as we have in the past.

The Lighting Group of the Electrical Engineering & Energy Technology (ETEC) department, the department of Mechanical Engineering (MECH) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), the Light&Lighting Laboratory of KU Leuven and UZ Brussels have developed an integrated surgical lighting and ventilation system.
